Simple question, if you had an unlimited budget and access to any car parts ( as well as an actual professional doing all of the work ) what would you build?

I’ve got two ideas-

1) Base model ‘69 Camaro with a straight six. Add bolt on fender flares, external oil cooler, plexi headlight covers (from a first gen Celica), the paintjob from a Hako racecar, Weber carbs, vintage JDM wheels, and a bunch of period go-faster and suspension parts. Oh, and convert it to RHD. Drive it to muscle car shows and piss everyone off.

Kinja'd!!!

( Artist’s depiction)

2) Second gen MR2. Full carbon monocoque which looked 100% stock on the outside. Built N/A 4AGE, pushrod suspension. Paint it all white, spoiler delete, white TE37s. I’m not even sure what I’d do with it, but I like the idea of an MR2 with a Le Mans prototype chassis.

Kinja'd!!!

Your turn!

hahaha this is a good one:

V8 twin turbo’d (using the engine from the current RS6/7) VW B6 Passat AWD’d as well. but, I’m not sure if an engine of that size would fit into a passat engine bay

Without giving it much thought, I’d probably take a manual one of these (in black), cut out all the superfluous weight, and make it a dedicated track car.

2008-2010 Infiniti M35/45. 6-speed manual, since that’s all it’ll need as the Nissan FM platform is a good one. It’s such a clean design and I’d love to a good Japanese muscle car that would be so comfy.

1967 Pontiac Firebird convertible body with the running gear of a 6-gen Camaro. I’d love to have one with the V6 since it sounds so good for a V6.

And my favorite: My Honda Pilot, swap out the running gear and drop a manual and maybe a 2JZ if it fits, if not, keep the pretty good V6 and tune it so it revs higher and makes a better sound or you know what, a re-engineered Alfa Romeo V6 that is so reliable. Oh and have good running gear and make it more sporty.

This is the auto enthusiast equivalent of, “If you won the lottery...”

1) I’d build the perfect 911 only to realize that I just built a Singer (which is basically perfect to me)

2) Then I’d realize that I had done it all wrong, and;

3) I’d want to do a similar build to the Supercharged Mini that they did on Mighty Car Mods, but I would use either a top-shelf motorcycle engine (a quick Lanesplitter search says it’s the Kawasaki Ninja ZX-14R , but I would forego a bit of top-end power if it had a bit more torque as well. Or perhaps give up a bit of torque for more revs. It’d be a game-time decision. Also, can you supercharge motorcycle engines? Since I have unlimited budget and professionals, I would find out. That said... I’m probably okay with just the Ninja engine. I would want this car purely to play with people’s minds when these see this little bastard rev to 11,000rpm.

4) Otherwise, I’d probably go with the Celica GT-Four; while I like the ST185 I’d get the ST205. Rework everything for wider tires and more power, and hopefully whoever does the suspension work is like Adrian Newey or something so the wide tires don’t produce too much unwanted driving characteristics, and so that he can ensure good front spoiler/rear wing development (and other bits if necessary). Then, I would somehow “find” a 1LR-GUE V10 and cram that motherfucker in here. Build a similar exhaust to the Yamaha system in the LF-A and I have myself a winner.

5) However, if I was feeling American, easy choice: essentially restomod a C2. I don’t know a lot about American muscle cars but I love the C2 look, but I’d want the modern LT4 and see if an engine specialist can swap out parts for increased revs and more power (not that that is necessary). It would essentially be C7-level tech in C2 body. I’d throw money at it until it worked.

(2) Alfa Romeo 2000 with the innards of an F40.

(3) RWB 918 with 917/30 engine

(4) an M158 swap into a 300SLR. In Olive Green, and rally lights. The classic looks+hellhound sound+rally

(5) Ducati Sport Classic Special, with a dark green base, but with all the gold trim. Then, fit a 1199 Engine in there. Turbo if possible

(6) Rolls Royce GT3, get a custom made Rolls Royce Phantom, but have it stripped, with carbon fiber everything, and a full race suspension and bodykit. From the factory.

(7) Camaro, pretty much as you described, but with a blown 4-rotor rotary. And a sculpted widebody.

If you gave me more time, I could come up with at least another 43

JDM- 240z with a R34 GTR drivetrain and awd swap, orange body, black wheels. Twin exhaust, air ride, and a huge wing, because I have have a secret love for giant wings that are also functional.

Muscle- My 72 Monte Carlo, twin turbo LS9 with a T56 trans, 9” rear, side pipes, air ride and big rear tires (335 rear tire at least), wine red body over black rally wheels

Exotic- Ferrari F12 in Corsa Red, black HRE wheels, and super loud Akropovich exhaust.

My car (2004 Cadillac seville sls) given a tear down and ground up rebuild. Fix any and all rust, replace parts with new or better. Total engine rebuild of course, and a nice exhaust. Id love to see if some oe could rig up AWD to the beast as well. Also total upgrade on materials on the inside, but left as close to stock looking as possible. So basically as is, but showroom condition, with a bit more power AWD and nicer matetials. A 6spd auto would be nice too, and if money is no option, upgrade from fe1 suspension to magnaride.

Kinja'd!!! PetarVN, GLI Guy, now with stupid power > TheJWT
01/06/2016 at 01:03

Kinja'd!!!0

Alright, I’ve got a few:

1) My car: The GLI has a list of things that would make it absolutely amazing. Let’s begin:

BODY: So first off, replace the front fenders, hood and trunk with carbon fiber, all flash-painted tornado red, like the rest of the car. Next, replace the stock 18” rims with 19” rims with a similar design, but make the 255-wide all around. next, replace the single exit exhaust with GTI-esque dual exhausts, but give them 2 tips each. Add a rear diffuser to the mix as well. Next, widen the car a bit. make it so the larger tires can fit square in the wheel wells, so there is no need for almost any camber. Also, replace the roof with a full-glass sunroof. add a larger lip spoiler to the back of the car. Lastly, replace all lights with LED lighting, for cleaner look.

INTERIOR: replace interior with full leather interior. front seats should be Recaro leather buckets (like those found in the Euro Golf R.) give front seats heating and cooling, and rear seats heating. Replace the stock sound system with one that has 18 speakers, 2 subs and an output of about 1000Watts. add red stitching to all places it was before, including a red ‘GLI’ stitched in to the front seat headrests.
Next, replace the infotainment screen in the car with one that goes along with the OEM look, but offers features like NAV as well. add gauges so all the engine stuff can be monitored. re-do rev counter so it goes higher.

SUSPENSION: Air suspension setup, so it will ride supremely on the highway, but offer little to no body roll in corners

ENGINE/TRANSMISION:

-AWD system installation.

-Pull out and build the TSI. add a larger turbo, freer piping, etc... Next, build the damn motor! bore it out and stroke it, put a cam for higher revving in there, and make it a 20-valve motor. build transmission accordingly as well. When done, it should make about 650AWHP on pump gas, and about 750hp on race fuel.

-BRAKES: BIG (and I mean huge) discs all around, with dual calipers on front brakes, both 6-piston. single caliper 6-piston brakes in the rear.

So yeah, that's the skinny on what I'd make of the GLI if I had $1,000,000 to work with

moderately high powered, true-AWD (3-differential system, active torque distribution) performance 3-door SUV or modest ute/pickup. Think modern STI updated new BRAT, or some sort of 3-door CUV successor to GMC Typhoon, with variable ride height suspension... Or just a sleeker 3-door Porsche Macan Turbo GTS.

and for the kicker... a BAC Mono with a different drivetrain. Easier option: 20B Twin-charged wankel rotary, backed by a dual-clutch transaxle. Harder option: 16X-based all-aluminum next-generation rotary, burning natural gas, driving a minimal-battery hybrid system like Koeniggsegg Regera.

Or a microturbine-powered Jaguar C-X75, as was originally intended.
